ABOUT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the administrative machinery for the management of the foreign policy of the Republic of Namibia. It is responsible for the formation, co-ordination and smooth functioning of the policies of Namibia as they involve relations with other states . Namibia currently maintains diplomatic relations with most of the countries that are represented at the United Nations. The Ministry's diverse duties are discharged through its head office in Windhoek and at its twenty missions around the world.

Promotes Namibia's political and economic relations with

	Europe and OEDC countries
	Africa and the Middle East
	The Americas, Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific Rim countries

	The Organization of African Unity, the United Nations, the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Non-aligned Movement
	Other governmental and non-governmental organizations of international scope
	Promotes Namibia's foreign policy agenda

	Handles accreditation of local and foreign diplomats
	Manages privileges and immunities granted to local and foreign diplomats
	Co-ordinates protocol with regard to conferences and ceremonies
	Processes Visa applications for diplomats and requests for diplomatic passports

	Manages General and Auxiliary Services

Namibia's overseas Missions:

	Represents the Namibian Government, speaks and negotiates on the Government's behalf when required, and takes responsibility for the activities of all Government officials in the country in question
	Provides consular services for Namibians visiting or living in the country where the mission is situated
	Promotes Namibia's interest abroad as it relates to trade, investment and tourism
	Promotes Namibia's foreign policy agenda
