EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

 

Primary Education:

Bunya Roman Catholic Mission School from 1961 to 1966.

 

Secondary Education:

Rundu Secondary School Form I and II 1967 to 1968. 

 

Dobra Training College:

Form II and III 1969 to 1970 went for Training as Primary School Teacher from 1971 to 1972.

 

Augustineum Training College:

Standard 9 and 10 from 1973 to 1974.

 

1975 - Enrolled to study in Field of Arts and Law at the University of Fort Hare.

1976 - September/October my study was interrupted by the Student Riots which started in

Soweto on 16th June.

 

POLITICAL CAREER:

Back to Namibia I joined SWAPO, and became an active member in the activities of the

SWAPO Windhoek Branch.

 

1977 - 1989 -    Elected as a member of the Windhoek Branch Executive Committee in

                        different positions including serving as chairperson.

 

1978         -     Detained under AG 26 for plus-minus 6 months.

 

1979-1980 -    Detained under AG26 for the second time for a year.  On release I was

                      restricted to the Municipality Area of Windhoek and to my house between

                     8 o’clock in the evening to 6 o’clock in the morning.  This ban lasted until 1989

                     when the Political situation changed.

 

1982 - Detained under AG 9 at Osire.

 

1989 - Appointed as election Director in the Region of Kavango and Tsumkwe Area.

 

1990 - Appointed as Minister of Lands, Resettlement and Rehabilitation.

 

1991 - Elected as member of the SWAPO Central Committee and Polit-Bureau.

 

1992 - (May) Appointed as Minister of Works, Transport and Communication.

 

1995 - (March) Appointed as Minister of Prisons and Correctional Services.

 

2002 - (September) Appointed as Minister of Labour.

 

2004 - (May) Appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

 

 

PROFESSIONAL CAREER:

 

1977 - 1989- Served as a Teacher at the Katutura Secondary School in Biology and Agriculture.

 

1988 - Founding member of the Namibia National Teachers Union (NANTU).

 

1988 - (March) Elected as the First President of NANTU at Shipena Secondary School in Katutura.

 

HOBBIES:

 

Reading especially Agricultural Magazines.

Watching T.V.

Listening to music.
